PDO MONO THREADS
The Foundation of Skin Tightening

What Is It?
PDO (Polydioxanone) Mono Threads are a sophisticated, non-surgical treatment designed to improve skin quality, firmness, and texture through targeted collagen stimulation. Unlike barbed lifting threads, Mono Threads do not anchor or lift large volumes of tissue; instead, they focus entirely on building a supportive scaffold that tightens and rejuvenates the skin from within.

This treatment is an ideal solution for clients seeking subtle yet significant improvement in early signs of skin laxity and textural imperfections on the face, neck, and body.
The Science of Collagen Induction
PDO is a safe, absorbable surgical suture material that has been used in medicine for decades. Mono Threads are smooth, fine strands of this material pre-loaded into a sterile needle.
Mechanism of Action (The How)
The treatment involves two distinct phases:

1. Immediate Mechanical Support: Once inserted into the subdermal layer of the skin, the threads create an immediate, microscopic network. This network acts as a temporary internal scaffold.

2. Long-Term Bio-Stimulation (The Why): As the body senses the foreign, absorbable material, it triggers a powerful healing cascade. This intentional trauma stimulates the surrounding tissue to produce vast amounts of new collagen, elastin, and hyaluronic acid around the thread.

This induced collagen production is the key to the long-term result. The new collagen remodels the skin’s structure, leading to sustained tightening and thickening of the tissue even after the threads themselves have fully dissolved.
Results Achieved
Mono Threads are typically placed in a mesh-like pattern to achieve broad, uniform improvement across a treated area:

• Result: Improved Skin Firmness and Elasticity: Leads to tighter, denser skin that resists gravity more effectively.

• Targeting: Ideal for areas prone to crepiness and laxity, such as the under-eye area (improving fine lines), the neck (reducing 'tech neck' lines), the submental area (tightening mild jowls), and areas of the body like the abdomen or knees.

• Result: Smoother Texture and Reduced Fine Lines: The increased collagen smooths out superficial imperfections.
• Result: Improved Blood Flow: The presence of the threads enhances micro-circulation, leading to better oxygenation and a healthier skin glow.
Areas for Treatment (Face and Body)
Mono threads are versatile and can be used on various areas to address skin laxity and improve texture:

Face:
• Forehead: For horizontal lines and brow lift.
• Under-Eyes: To improve thin, crepey skin and fine lines.
• Cheeks: For general tightening and improved skin quality.
• Nasolabial Folds (smile lines) & Marionette Lines: To soften lines by tightening the surrounding skin.
• Jawline: To improve mild jowl formation and define the jaw.
• Upper Lip: For "smoker's lines."
• Neck & Décolletage:
• Neck: To reduce horizontal "Tech Neck" lines and improve overall neck skin laxity.
• Décolletage: To smooth crepiness and improve sun-damaged skin texture.

Body:
• Abdomen: For post-pregnancy skin laxity or mild sagging.
• Inner Thighs & Knees: To tighten loose skin.
• Upper Arms: For mild "bat wing" appearance.
• Buttocks: To improve skin texture and mild lift.
ESSENTIAL TREATMENT INFORMATION
TREATMENT COURSE AND LONGEVITY
PDO Mono Threads are a foundational treatment and typically require more than one session to build adequate collagen support.

• Sessions Required: A course of 2 to 3 initial sessions, spaced 6 to 8 weeks apart, is often recommended to achieve optimal collagen stimulation and density.

• Results Timeline: Initial minor tightening may be seen immediately due to the mechanical insertion, but the true, noticeable improvement begins at 3-6 weeks as new collagen matures. The peak result is usually visible at 3-4 months.

• Longevity: The PDO threads fully dissolve within 6-9 months, but the high-quality collagen they stimulated lasts for 12 to 18 months, making this a lasting investment in skin integrity. Maintenance sessions are recommended annually.
PRE-TREATMENT ADVICE (7 DAYS PRIOR)
• Avoid Blood Thinners: Stop taking non-essential blood-thinning medications and supplements (e.g., Aspirin, Ibuprofen, fish oils, Vitamin E), only after consulting your prescribing physician, to minimise bruising.
• Avoid Alcohol: Refrain from consuming alcohol for at least 48 hours before the procedure.
AFTERCARE (7 DAYS POST-TREATMENT)
• Avoid Pressure: Avoid vigorous massage or manipulation of the treated area for at least two weeks. Sleep on your back for the first few nights.

• Avoid Strenuous Activity: Refrain from heavy exercise, saunas, steam rooms, and excessive heat exposure for 48 hours.

• Avoid Dental Work: Postpone any non-essential dental work (e.g., deep cleaning) for at least 2 weeks if the lower face was treated.
Possible Side Effects
Common (Lasting 1-7 days):
Pinpoint bruising, swelling, redness, and tenderness at the insertion sites. A slight puckering or "bunching" of the skin may occur temporarily at the entry points but typically resolves within a week.

Less Common:
Lumps/bumps (which can often be massaged or dissolve naturally), allergic reactions, or, very rarely, vascular The threads may occasionally be palpable under the skin for a few weeks; rarely, a thread can extrude (poke out) and must be safely trimmed by the practitioner. Infection risk is minimal but possible with any invasive procedure.
