PRP INJECTIONS & THE VAMPIRE FACIAL
Harnessing Your Body's Healing Power

What Is It?
Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) therapy, often sensationalized as the "Vampire Facial" when used for skin, is a cutting-edge regenerative treatment that leverages your body’s own natural healing factors to stimulate profound rejuvenation. It is an autologous procedure, meaning it uses nothing but a highly concentrated component derived from your own blood, making it exceptionally safe, natural, and biocompatible.

This is a true biological treatment that offers long-term benefits for both skin health and hair restoration.
Understanding the Science: How PRP Works
The key component of PRP is the Platelet. Platelets are small, cell-like fragments found in blood that are responsible for clotting. More importantly, when activated, they release a powerful cocktail of Growth Factors (specialised proteins) and signaling molecules.
The Three-Step Procedure
The treatment involves isolating and concentrating these powerful healing agents:

1. Blood Draw: A small volume of the patient’s blood (similar to a standard blood test) is drawn from the arm.
2. Centrifugation: The blood sample is placed into a specialized machine called a centrifuge. This machine spins the blood at high speed, separating the components by weight. This process isolates the clear, yellow-tinted liquid that is the Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP), which contains a concentration of platelets 5 to 10 times higher than normal blood.

3. Application/Injection: This highly concentrated, liquid gold is then immediately applied to the skin or injected into the target area, initiating a powerful healing response.
Mechanism of Action (The Why)
Once the concentrated Growth Factors are delivered to the tissue, they essentially "wake up" dormant cells and trigger a massive regenerative cascade:

• Collagen & Elastin Synthesis: Growth factors stimulate fibroblasts (the skin's factory cells) to aggressively produce new, high-quality collagen and elastin, leading to improved skin structure and firmness.
• Cellular Turnover & Repair: They encourage cell division and tissue remodelling, healing damaged cells and replacing old tissue with new.

• Angiogenesis: They promote the formation of new, healthy blood vessels, improving localized blood flow and nourishment to the treated area (crucial for hair follicles).
Applications and Results
PRP's versatility allows for targeted treatment in both aesthetic and restorative capacities:

1. Skin Rejuvenation (Vampire Facial):
• Placement & Technique: The PRP is injected into the mid-dermis or applied topically and driven into the skin using Microneedling.

• Results Achieved: Improved Skin Texture, Tone, and Radiance. This leads to a significant reduction in fine lines, acne scarring, and pore size. It also effectively diminishes crepey skin under the eyes and on the neck.

2. Hair Loss (PRP Injections):
• Placement & Technique: The PRP is injected directly into the scalp at the level of the hair follicles in areas of thinning.

• Results Achieved: Hair Restoration. The treatment stimulates dormant hair follicles, increases blood supply to the scalp, and thickens existing hair strands. It also helps to reduce excessive hair shedding.
Treatment Course & Longevity
PRP is a powerful stimulator but requires time to facilitate true tissue regeneration. It is a long-term skin investment, not an instant fix.

• Sessions Required: Typically, a course of 3 to 4 initial sessions, spaced 4 to 6 weeks apart, is recommended for both skin and hair to kick-start and maximize the regenerative process.

• Results Timeline: Results are gradual. Initial improvements (reduced shedding, improved skin glow) may be seen in 4-8 weeks, but the full, noticeable thickening of hair or structural improvement of the skin typically appears 3 to 6 months after the final treatment.

• Longevity: Maintenance treatments are advised every 6 to 12 months to sustain the cellular activity and preserve the results.
ESSENTIAL TREATMENT INFORMATION
PRE-TREATMENT ADVICE (7 DAYS PRIOR)
• Avoid Blood Thinners: Stop taking all non-essential blood-thinning medications and supplements, such as Aspirin, Ibuprofen (NSAIDs), fish oils, and Vitamin E, only after consultation with your prescribing physician.

• Hydration: Be well-hydrated in the 24 hours leading up to your appointment, as this makes the blood draw easier and improves the quality of the plasma yield.

• Avoid Alcohol: Refrain from consuming alcohol for at least 48 hours prior.
AFTERCARE (24-48 HOURS POST-TREATMENT)
• Expect Swelling/Redness: The treatment area (face or scalp) will be red, swollen, and potentially tender. This is the initial inflammatory stage and is a sign that the regenerative process has begun.

• Avoid Washing/Shampooing: Do not wash the treated area (face or scalp) for at least 6 to 12 hours.

• Avoid Extreme Heat: Refrain from strenuous exercise, saunas, steam rooms, and hot tubs for 24-48 hours.

• Pain Relief: Only use Paracetamol (Acetaminophen) for pain relief; avoid NSAIDs (like Ibuprofen) for six weeks as they can interfere with the regenerative process.
Possible Side Effects
Common (Lasting 1-3 days):
Localized pain, swelling, redness, and minor bruising at the injection sites. Headaches are occasionally reported after scalp injections.

Safety:
Because PRP is created from your own blood (autologous), the risk of allergic reaction, transmission of communicable disease, or rejection is virtually eliminated. As with any injection, there is a very small risk of infection.
