JAWLINE & CHIN ENHANCEMENT
Defining the Framework of the Face

What Is It?
Jawline and Chin Enhancement using Hyaluronic Acid (HA) dermal fillers is a highly sophisticated, non-surgical treatment designed to sculpt the lower third of the face. This procedure is critical for achieving facial harmony, symmetry, and a strong, defined profile.
The treatment offers dual functionality: it can be profoundly restorative replacing the bone and volume loss that leads to sagging and indistinct contours or dramatically transformative creating a chiselled, angular definition that may not be naturally present.
Sculpting the Lower Third
The goal of lower face enhancement is not simply to add volume everywhere, but to strategically define the key angles and planes. This procedure relies on placing structural HA fillers only where needed to connect the chin and jawline, avoiding the undesirable, heavy look that results from treating the entire lower border of the face indiscriminately.
1: Placement and Technique
Structural HA filler is meticulously placed into the deep dermis or directly onto the periosteum (bone), using precise injection techniques (often employing a cannula for safety and smooth placement).

Key areas for strategic placement include:

Chin (Mental Protuberance): To project and lengthen the chin, improving overall facial balance and reducing the appearance of a 'weak' or receding chin.

Mandibular Angle (Angle of the Jaw): Filler is placed at the corner of the jaw to enhance definition, flare the angle for a more striking contour, or restore the sharp corner that softens with age.

Pre Jowl Sulcus: This is a crucial area targeted to diminish the appearance of jowls. Filler is placed immediately in front of the jowl (the indentation or hollow) to lift and camouflage the sagging tissue that forms the jowl itself.

Crucial Technique Note: We do not treat the entire lower border of the jawline. Filler is strategically placed at the connection points (chin, angle, and pre-jowl hollow) to create the illusion of a continuous, sharp jawline. Placing filler uniformly across the entire length of the jaw can lead to a heavy, unnatural, or undesirable 'square' lower face.
2: Results and Mechanism
This technique achieves a comprehensive yet targeted refinement of the lower face:

Sharp, Defined Jawline: Creates a clear, firm separation between the face and the neck.
Why: By enhancing the mandibular angle and treating the pre-jowl area, the horizontal plane of the jawline is defined, providing a strong frame for the face.

Diminished Jowls: The area of sagging is subtly camouflaged.

Why: By placing filler directly in the pre-jowl sulcus (the hollow next to the jowl), the structural support is restored. This lifts and smooths the surrounding tissues, making the actual jowl area appear smaller and less noticeable.

Profile Balancing and Harmony: Corrects a weak chin and improves the overall relationship between the nose, lips, and chin.
Why: Chin projection is often the missing element in facial harmony. Extending the chin length and forward projection balances the profile, often making the neck appear longer and the nose appear smaller.
PRE-TREATMENT ADVICE (7 DAYS PRIOR)
To minimize bruising and optimize healing, clients are advised to:

-
Avoid Blood Thinners: Stop taking non-essential medications and supplements that thin the blood, such as Aspirin, Ibuprofen (NSAIDs), fish oils, and Vitamin E, only after consulting their primary care physician.
-
Avoid Alcohol: Refrain from consuming alcohol for at least 48 hours before the procedure, as it increases the risk of bruising.
-
Treat Active Conditions: Ensure there are no active skin infections, cold sores, or open wounds in the treatment area.
AFTERCARE (24-48 HOURS POST-TREATMENT)
Diligent aftercare supports the longevity and integration of the filler:

-
Avoid Pressure: Do not press, rub, or massage the treated areas for at least 6 hours, and avoid sleeping directly on your jawline/chin the first night.
-
Avoid Strenuous Activity: Refrain from heavy exercise, saunas, steam rooms, and hot tubs for 24-48 hours.
-
Avoid Chewing Gum: Limit vigorous chewing for 48 hours to allow the structural filler to settle properly.
Possible Side Effects
Common (Lasting 1-10 days):
Swelling, tenderness, and minor bruising at the injection sites. The lower face may feel tight or firm initially.

Less Common:
Visible bumps or asymmetry, which can typically be corrected. Due to the proximity of the mental nerve in the chin area, temporary numbness or tingling is sometimes experienced. As with all filler treatments, rare but serious complications like vascular occlusion are possible, underscoring the need for a highly expert clinician.
Longevity of Results
Due to the structural nature of the HA fillers used and the placement near the bone in a relatively static area, jawline and chin enhancement results are highly durable. Clients can expect the definition to last between 12 to 24 months. Maintenance treatments are recommended to sustain the sharp, contoured profile.
