FAT DISSOLVING INJECTIONS
Targeted Contour

What Is It?

Fat Dissolving Injections are a powerful, non-surgical solution designed to treat small, stubborn pockets of localized fat that are resistant to diet and exercise. This procedure is a highly effective way to refine contours and sculpt areas like the double chin, jowls, abdomen, flanks, and inner thighs, providing permanent fat removal without the invasiveness of surgery.

The Science of Fat Destruction

These injections work through a process called adipocytolysis—the destruction of fat cells. The solution, once injected into the subcutaneous fat layer, permanently destroys the targeted fat cells.

Mechanism of Action (The How)

The core mechanism relies on a key ingredient that breaks down the integrity of the fat cells:

1. Cellular Disruption: The active ingredient (often a form of deoxycholic acid or a powerful blend of enzymes and vitamins) acts on the wall of the fat cell (adipocyte). It disrupts the cell membrane, causing the fat cell to break down and release its fatty contents (lipids).

2. Natural Elimination: Once the fat cells are destroyed and the lipids are released, the body’s natural metabolic and lymphatic systems recognize this as waste. Specialized cells, called macrophages, engulf the debris, and the fat is safely metabolized and excreted by the liver and kidneys over the following weeks.

This process ensures that the fat cells are permanently eliminated from the treated area. However, it is crucial to maintain a stable weight, as remaining fat cells in untreated areas can still expand.

Results and Why

• Result: Targeted Fat Reduction & Sculpting: A visible reduction in the size of the treated area, leading to a smoother, more defined contour.

• Why: The permanent destruction of fat cells allows for precision sculpting in areas that genetics or age have made resistant to weight loss.

• Result: Skin Tightening (Secondary Benefit): Many formulations also stimulate a degree of collagen production during the healing process.

• Why: This collagen boost helps the overlying skin contract as the fat disappears, enhancing the contoured result and preventing excessive skin laxity.

Understanding the Key Formulations: Aqualyx vs. Lemon Bottle

While both products aim to dissolve fat, their formulations and mechanisms have distinct differences, which can influence the treatment experience and regulatory profile:

• Active Ingredient: Aqualyx uses Sodium Deoxycholate (a synthesized bile acid), whereas Lemon Bottle uses a blend of Riboflavin (Vitamin B2), Bromelain (Pineapple Enzyme), and Lecithin.

• Mechanism: Aqualyx directly and rapidly breaks down the fat cell wall (known as cytolytic action). Lemon Bottle promotes fat breakdown through enhanced metabolism and enzymatic action (known as lipolysis and enzymatic degradation).

Post-Treatment Swelling: Aqualyx may cause more significant localised inflammation and swelling lasting 3–7 days due to its direct mechanism. Lemon Bottle is often marketed as having less swelling and minimal downtime due to its anti-inflammatory components (Bromelain).

Treatment Course and Longevity

Fat dissolving injections are delivered in a course of sessions to achieve the desired result.

• Sessions Required: Most clients require between 2 to 4 sessions per area, spaced 4 to 6 weeks apart. The exact number depends on the size of the fat pocket and the individual's metabolic response.

• Longevity: The results are permanent, as the targeted fat cells are destroyed and cannot return. Maintenance requires maintaining a healthy, stable weight.

ESSENTIAL TREATMENT INFORMATION

PRE-TREATMENT ADVICE (7 DAYS PRIOR)

• Avoid Blood Thinners: Stop taking non-essential medications and supplements that thin the blood (NSAIDs like Ibuprofen, fish oils, Vitamin E, etc.), only after consulting your prescribing physician.

• Avoid Alcohol: Refrain from consuming alcohol for at least 48 hours before the procedure.

AFTERCARE (7 DAYS POST TREATMENT)

• Expect Swelling & Tenderness: Swelling, redness, bruising, and tenderness in the treated area are normal and expected, particularly with Aqualyx. This is a sign the product is working.

• Gentle Massage: Gently massage the treated area (as instructed by your practitioner) to help distribute the product and aid lymphatic drainage.

• Avoid Extreme Heat: Refrain from strenuous exercise, saunas, and steam rooms for 48 hours.

• Hydration: Drink plenty of water to assist the lymphatic system in flushing out the dissolved fat.

Possible Side Effects

Common (Lasting 3-7 days):

Significant swelling, tenderness, redness, and bruising. Hardness or small nodules under the skin at the injection site are common but usually resolve as the inflammation subsides. â€‹

Rare:

Temporary numbness in the area, allergic reactions, or, in extremely rare cases, skin necrosis (if the product is injected incorrectly). Choosing an experienced, skilled practitioner is essential to minimize risks.
